Aylmer Johnson (Mechanics Group)

Short biography

Graduated from Magdalene College in 1973, and worked in the Chemical Engineering Contracting Industry before returning to Cambridge to help create the DUCT Surface Modelling Package, now marketed by Delcam. Joined the Teaching Staff of the Department in 1980, and became a Fellow of Clare College in 1981.

Research

Functional Modelling. This is one of the research themes of the University's Engineering Design Centre (EDC), and aims to allow mechanical engineers to specify and develop new mechanical designs in terms of their intended functionality rather than their shape.
