Simon Guest: Biomimetics
I became interested in biomimetics when I became aware that the wrapping fold pattern closely resembles the unfolding of some flowers in the bud. Davide De Focatiis worked with me on examining how folding structures in nature could inspire new designs for deployable structures; he developed a nice scheme for folding membranes based on the fold pattern that allows some leaves to fold in the bud.
